The Challenge
As Google’s next-generation AI model, Gemini represents a fundamental shift — moving artificial intelligence from invisible infrastructure to an everyday creative and cognitive partner. The identity needed to equip the brand with its own distinctive system and expressive toolkit, allowing it to step out of backstage neutrality and claim a visible, ownable presence in an increasingly saturated category.
The Solution
Centered on the Spark as a symbol of ignition and possibility, we gave Gemini a distinct presence within Google’s ecosystem — not as invisible infrastructure — but as an intuitive force. A motion-driven, light-infused visual system brings AI out of abstraction and into presence. Beyond visual expression, the system grounds advanced AI in relatable use cases to illustrate how Gemini supports everyday tasks, creative exploration, and complex thinking.

Project Information
25 years of Google brought the world closer through the power of search. Now, at another pivotal technological turn, an opportunity emerged to define a category.
Gemini, the artificial intelligence formerly known as Bard, faced an unexpected challenge. As new competitors entered the category, once-innovative brand codes became generic AI language. At the same time, AI underwent a significant shift—from an invisible force, quietly powering systems behind the scenes, to becoming a tangible presence in everyday life. This shift represented the driving potential to assert Gemini’s leadership and connect at a human level with the next kind of workers and learners.
Our charge: Make Gemini the Google Magic for a new generation.
To manifest this magic, Gemini required a bold reframing—distinct yet seamlessly integrated within Google’s ecosystem of products and services. We began by reclaiming the now ubiquitous symbol of AI, the Spark, as an invitation to explore. Just as Gemini activates curiosity, we activate the Spark through immersive motion that initiates exploration, reveals content, and invokes the Gemini magic.
The duality and interplay between the human input and magic output sits at the heart of our design system, visualizing Gemini as both a responsive partner and a source of discovery.
To fully claim its space, Gemini also needed a system to hero its interface in a way that only Google's legacy makes possible. The result: a confident, pointed visual language celebrating Gemini’s helpfulness. We distilled product elements to their essence, focusing on delivering answers and highlighting what matters most to users.
Motion gestures, ranging from singular, heroic demonstrations to multi-step explorations brought product stories to life in an engaging and remixable system. Oversized UI elements introduced a larger-than-life attitude to traditionally understated product features.
Sparking this journey required not just product visuals, but a diverse mix of media. Gemini's system now supports wide-reaching needs and applications by blending user-generated content, branded visuals, editorial designs, and moving imagery. To complement this mix, we interpreted Gemini’s “magic” through a bespoke illustration style, infinitely expandable through artist collaborations.
To bring everything together, we crafted a verbal identity that captured three distinct voices: the user, the product, and the brand. With this trio, we created a system that reflected your journey with Gemini — from imperfect prompts to helpful intelligence to boundless possibilities — with a responsive approach to storytelling no matter the moment or medium.
This evolved identity gives Gemini a clear, flexible system—built to scale and adapt as the product evolves. It’s a foundation designed to keep pace with the brand’s momentum, setting a strong visual standard across every platform and igniting a new era for Google: the Gemini era.
